5 Of My Favorite Craving Crushing Tips
I’ll be the first to admit it, when night time comes around and I come home from a long day with clients, I’m opening up the closet and pantries looking for stuff to eat. 99% of the time I’ll have a regular meal consisting of protein, veggies, and healthy fats. Remember, carbs at night are bad unless you just finished your workout.
Now sometimes after I finish my dinner, I want a little something extra. And when I’m dieting down for summer, like I’m currently doing, those cravings are at an all time high!
It sucks and I hate it, especially when there is junk food around or you have friends tempting you to eat garbage.
So over the course of this current diet that I’m doing, I began experimenting with certain craving crushing ideas and so far it’s been a great success.
Here are five of them that I use on a daily basis.
Craving Crusher #1: Coca Cola Cherry Zero
Ever since I was a little kid and drank soda, cherry coke was always my favorite. And I was in the supermarket the other day and passed the soda section. I saw they now had cherry coke zero. To be honest, they probably have had it for years but I didn’t know cause I don’t drink soda. So I figured why not?
Zero calories, sweet tasting and the carbonation would help keep my belly full and cravings at bay. So far, it’s working like a charm. If I need something sweet, I’ll pop open a can and drink it over the course of 15 minutes. Cravings gone and I had zero calories.
Craving Crusher #2: Low Carb Hot Coca
In my kitchen I have a giant bag of Splenda and I was going through my pantry one night looking for something to chow down on that had very little calories. I knew nothing was in there, but I still looked around anyway until I saw a canister of Hershey’s genuine Cocoa powder. To my surprise 1 tbs only had 10 calories and each serving has 2 grams of fiber, 1 gram of carbs. AWESOME!
So what I did was put 2 tbs of cocoa powder in a mug with 2 tbs of Splenda. I added water all the way to the top and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. I took it out, stirred and sipped. I’m telling you, it tasted like regular hot cocoa except without the real sugar and added carbs from milk. Another victory to me!
Craving Crusher #3: Cucumbers!
I have to admit I’m kind of lazy sometimes when it comes to preparing fresh veggies, salads, etc. So when I am, I’ll just chow down on a bunch of cucumbers. They have are full of ruffage so they really fill me up and expand my stomach. (This is key since it sends signals to your brain saying you are full.) Sometimes I’ll chop them up and add spicy deli mustard to increase the flavoring.
Craving Crush #4: Beef or Chicken Broth
I don’t know what it is about this craving crusher but the sodium really cures my cravings at night. I’ll just boil up some water and drop a chicken or beef bouillon cube in a mug until it’s dissolved and then just slowly sip and enjoy the salty flavor. I know some people think that salt is bad for them, but a lot of evidence is emerging that salt intake and blood pressure is greatly over stated. I haven’t personally looked at the research so I can’t comment. But what I do know is I sweat a lot when I workout so I’m not too worried about the extra salt intake.
Craving Crusher #5: Casein Protein Shakes
Protein shakes are awesome for when you’re out on the road and can’t get a good meal in. But I especially love them for dieting because they are so quick, relatively in expensive compared to a pound of chicken breast and they keep me full. Now, there’s 2 different types of protein shakes, casein and whey. Whey digests fast and casein digests slow and that is why it’s a cravings crusher. Casein protein shakes are thick and will keep you full for hours on end while whey will only last around an hour or so. I just ordered a 10 pound bag of the stuff and it’s look beautiful just sitting in my closet
Anyways, these are 5 of my personal favorite craving crushers that I use on a daily basis if need be. Feel free to use them as well. And if you have any that you personally use yourself, then list them below for everyone!
