Best Protein Powder for Weight Loss?
Many people have their own opinion of what’s the best protein powder for weight loss. Protein powder in my opinion is the number 1 supplement that any person should have in their closet or cupboard. There are numerous reasons for this. One of these reasons is because it’s really cheap. If you were to eat 1 pound of chicken breasts which will cost you around $2.00-$4.00, this comes out to 100 grams of protein. To get 100 grams of protein from whey protein or casein protein, it only costs less than $1.00
There are tons of different marketed protein powders out there and it can be very confusing for the consumer to go through each one. This is mainly dependent on the person’s goals. Don’t worry because I am going to break down the 2 main types that most people will benefit from and give show you the best type for weight loss.
The 2 main types of protein powder out on the market today are whey protein and casein protein. Each has a different dub class.
Whey protein concentrate is a very fast digestible protein powder. It can be digested and utilized by the small intestines and shuttled to necessary paths through the body between 15 minutes and up to 1 hour. This is of course dependent on the quality of the supplement. Casein protein digests much more slowly than whey. It can take anywhere from 1 hour to 8 hours to be fully digested. Again, this is dependent on the type of casein powder.
Right after you exercise or workout, the best type of protein powder for you to use is whey without a doubt. You need those amino acids right away in the blood stream to take advantage of protein synthesis.
It is primed for maximum nutrient uptake. If you are trying to use whey protein as a meal replacement, then you will find yourself getting extremely hungry really fast. One way to combat this is to combine it with carbs and fats to slow down gastric emptying.
Casein – Best Protein Powder For Weight Loss
Casein protein powder, like I stated before is the slow digesting type of protein. It’s a perfect protein source to ingest right before you go to bed at night. Reason being is because of the steady stream of amino acids it will provide in your blood stream for your recovering muscles. A great snack to have before bed is some type of fiber, healthy fat like peanut butter and casein protein to slow digestion down even more.
My best recommendation for a slow digesting protein powder would be micellar casein. Micellar casein contains a lot of special growth factors and chalk full of essential amino acids. It also takes between 6-8 hours to be fully digested and utilized by the body. It’s also really thick which helps you stay full a lot longer. That’s why I feel casein is the best protein powder for weight loss because of the steady stream of amino’s it provides.
