The 100 Burpee Challenge – Good Luck!
By Jared DiCarmine On October 13, 2011 Under Exercise For Fat LossSo I’m in bed one night and I couldn’t fall asleep for the life of me.
That’s my big problem sometimes especially when I have a lot of ideas running through my mind or things that need to get done. For the life of me I just won’t be able to fall asleep and I lay there tossing and turning like a young child whose having a bad dream. So I’m tossing and turning and my mind is running at 100 m.p.h. Next thing I know I look up at the clock at it’s 3:30 a.m. I said to myself “great, only 2 more hours until I have to get up”, let alone I went to bed at 10 p.m. the night before.
So in order to try and calm my mind down and get some sort of rest, I started thinking of working out and actually going through themotions. The loading of the plates on the machines and bars, the smell of the gym, the plates hitting each other, people talking, drinking at the water fountain, the cardio equipment buzzing with 50+ people humming along on the ellipticals, bikes, and treadmill. Then all of a sudden out of the blue the 100 Burpee Challenge popped into my head.
I was like WTF is this? But then I said “oh wait” this could be great to use with clients and myself especially when I don’t have that much time to workout or get any type of cardio in. Plus anyone can do this anywhere and try and attempt to get better each week. You’ll be able to blast away body fat, increase your metabolism through the afterburn effect, increase EPOC, and also increase your cardiovascular levels all within 10 minutes. Not a bad workout right?
I gotta be honest though it’s going to suck for those 10 minutes, but in the end it’ll be worth it. Plus the abdominal stability strength and leg endurance you’ll develop will do wonders for your lower body, especially women who hold a lot of body fat in their lower body.
So what exactly is the 100 Burpee Challenge? Simply…
You’re going to set a timer and see how long you can do 100 burpees. You’re allowed to take as many breaks as you want, it doesn’t matter. The whole point is to get 100 burpees done in the fastest amount of time possible and then the next time you do this exercise, your whole goal is to beat your time. That’s it. This is a form of density training where you try and get more total work done in a faster amount of time.
Here are some preliminary results I have gotten so far with clients:
Client A) 31 year old female. 5’7 140 lbs smoker: Workout 1 – 9:04, Workout 2 – 8:44, Workout 3 – 7:57
Client B) 55 year old male. 5’9 157 and lean: Workout 1 – 5:49, Workout 2 – 5:43, Workout 3 – 5:39
Client C) 54 year old female. 5’7 137 and lean: Workout 1 – 6:34, Workout 2 – 6:13, Workout 3 – 6:10
These are the only clients that I have tried it with but I wanted to show you some results so far that have been happening. The biggest thing that you are going to face is not so much the cardiovascular aspect, but the lactic acid build up in your legs. That’s okay though because you want that for the purpose of fat loss reasons and muscular endurance.
The perfect time to do the 100 Burpee Challenge is when you are getting ready in the morning after you had your cup of coffee and on an empty stomach, or right before you workout. This will light up that metabolism, especially in the morning, and let it burn continuously at a higher level for a few hours after.
So there you have it…
You know what….Try it out right now and write down your times below.
The more the merrier

What is a burpee? You never show or explain what it is!

Just tried this for the first time, and including a break at 50 my total time was about 5 min 45 sec. No idea if this is good for someone just starting to do this type of workout, but I’m pretty pleased with it.
